Did Jesus Ever Claim To Be God?
A: Yes, He did. By simply looking at the words of Jesus’
friends, enemies and Jesus Himself we see that He claimed to be God and that
those around Him clearly understood that He was claiming to be God.
THE WORDS OF JESUS FRIENDS…
- “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by
Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible
and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All
things were created through Him and for Him.” – Colossians 1:15-16
- "And Thomas answered and said to Him Jesus, "My Lord and my God!" (John
20:28)
- We looking for the “hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior
Jesus Christ.” Titus 2:13
- “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God.” (John 1:1)
THE WORDS OF JESUS ENEMIES…
- “Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS
OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then many of the Jews read this title…
and the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "Do not write, "The King of
the Jews,' but, "He said, "I am the King of the Jews.""' Pilate answered, "What
I have written, I have written." (John 19:19-22)
- “So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the
earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, ‘Truly
this was the Son of God!’" (Matthew 27:54)
- "I and My Father are one." Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
Jesus answered them, "Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which
of these do you stone Me?" The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do
not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make yourself
God." (John 10:30-33)
THE WORDS OF JESUS…
- “Show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us." Jesus said to him, "Have I
been with you so long and yet you have not seen Me, Philip? He who has seen Me
has seen the Father." (John 14:8-9)
- “Now Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked Him, saying, "Are
You the King of the Jews?"
Jesus said to him, ‘It is as you say.’" (Matthew 27:11)
- "Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."
NOTE: I AM is the name of the eternal God. (John 8:58)
- “The woman said to Him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming’ (who is called
Christ). ‘When He comes, He will tell us all things.’ Jesus said to her,
‘I who speak to you am He.’" (John 4:26-27)
