Put On Your Gospel Shoes
“And, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.” (Ephesians 6:15)
Christians are called to be steadfast, active, moving, progressing and ascending. In order to do these things we’re told in the verse above that the gospel should be like shoes on our feet.
The gospel protects, comforts and supports us the same way as shoes protect, comforts and supports our feet.
Let Us Examine The Gospel Shoes
1) They come from a blessed maker, one who knows by experience what is needed, since he has himself journeyed through life’s roughest ways – “We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.” (Heb 4:15)
2) Only the Lord can make them – “Jesus said, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (Jhn 14:6)
3) They are worn by all the saints – “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Cor 5:3-4)
4) They are such as will never wear out. They are old, yet ever new. We may wear them at all ages and in all places – “I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.” (Jhn 6:47)
Let Us Try Them On
1) They fit perfectly. They are made to suit each one of us – “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ (Eph 2:10)
2) They provide an excellent foothold. We can tread with holy boldness to high places with these shoes – “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Heb 4:16)
3) No one grows weary wearing them – “My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matt 11:30)
4) They provide protection against trials – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
5) They are pleasant to wear, giving us complete rest – “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt 11:28)
