Bedtime

"Son," said the father, "time to get ready for bed."

"No", the little boy replied, "I think I'd rather stay up instead.

I'll watch some TV and play with my toys,

I'll run around the house and make lots of noise!"

So the boy started to play and he had a blast,

He played with his toys and ran around real fast.

"Son, I'm your father and I know what's best,

You need to stop running around and get some rest."

"Your wrong!" he protested, " I'm not tired, not tired at all."

It was then that the little boy's energy started to fall.

He stopped running and playing and put down his head,

He let out a yawn -- this little boy was ready for bed!

Then his father picked him up and held him tight,

Placed him in bed and kissed him goodnight.

Like the little boy in the poem above, we often ignore our heavenly Father's advice. We think that we know what’s better for us than the One who created us. The One who knows how many hairs we have on our head and what tomorrow holds and the day after that and every day after that (Luke 12:7, Revelation 22:13).

But like the father in our poem God -- our heavenly Father -- is patient with us, His children. And when we finally stop leaning on our own understanding and trust Him, He is right there to pick us up and hold us tight and make our path straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).
